Module Wearable Future  |  Bachelor Product Design 2021

A critical design that criticizes the flood of unnecessary photos and the naive society on social media these days.

The aim of this module was to gain insights into the discourses, new possibilities and challenges of the increasing digitization of wearable technologies. Together with Benedict Häner, we have created a critical design that criticizes the flood of unnecessary photos and the naive society on social media these days. Our goal with this product called Blinky is to show people what has become of our lives today, what we are doing wrong in this society and how social media and its flood of images affect our lives. We show it in a controlled way by creating a working product that could be in the near future and making a video of the product possibilities for the Iphone commercial.

With the help of technical support and the Arduino program, we were able to make our idea of taking pictures while blinking a reality. The headgear is welded together from three separate sheet metal parts. We put the electronics under the sheet metal and covered it with silicone. The silver sheet and silver wire eyelashes are connected to the electronics and attached near the real eyelashes.

Our product consists of a head piece with a built-in camera that reacts to your blink and takes excellent pictures. A selection of these edited images, which have been marked as highlights by the algorithm, is displayed as a video in the Blinky app. The app works similarly to Tik Tok and has the same effects as other social media platforms.
